Patch Adams by Linda
“There is no hope for human survival if we don’t change to a loving world. There’s no hope for rich people in the future, no hope for anybody if we don’t make a world whose values are compassion and generosity.”
You may know Hunter Doherty Adams from the movie based on the start of his doctoral career, “Patch Adams” starring Robin Williams. A doctor or shall we say clown, with no regard for rules or playing by the book. A doctor that truly believed in treating the patient before treating the disease, infection, etc.
What you might not know, is that Patch Adams is still alive and practicing his holistic views on healing. After graduation from Medical College of Virginia in 1971, he opened Gesundheit! Institute – a non profit healthcare organization – where his mission is still in full effect
“Remember laughing? Laughter enhances the blood flow to the body’s extremities and improves cardiovascular function. Laughter releases endorphins and other natural mood elevating and pain-killing chemicals, improves the transfer of oxygen and nutrients to internal organs. Laughter boosts the immune system and helps the body fight off disease, cancer cells as well as viral, bacterial and other infections. Being happy is the best cure of all diseases!”
This post is dedicated to a friend of ours, who recently is faced with quite a journey ahead of her. Her strength and cheerful spirit throughout this time is truly something to be admired.
